Yuko Mohri | Compose, Japan Pavilion, 60th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia, Veniceartdrunk | Meet Yuko Mohri and her living and breathing works at the Japanese Pavilion. Flies hover around rotting fruits. Music plays to the rhythm of the leaking water. All while the building breathes through its ceiling-floor window.
Yuko brings a piece of Tokyo to Venice. Inspired by the makeshift solutions to Tokyo subway station leaks, she simulates leaks (via water pumps) and repairs them (via household items) at the same time. All household items were locally sourced by Yuko in Venice when she used the pavilion as her studio for two months. And as water circulates throughout the pavilion, the decreasing moisture of the rotting fruits send electric signals to speakers and light bulbs—you can hear, see, and smell the decay.
